Ethiopia and Uganda cement military partnership with historic bilateral agreement

Ethiopia and Uganda have inked a deal to solidify their commitment to cooperation in the military sector, as the Defense Minister of Uganda, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, and the Chief of Staff of the country’s defense forces, General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, engaged in official discussions in Addis Ababa.

The Uganda military delegation was received at the headquarters of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF).

Minister of Defense, Abraham Belay, and ENDF Chief of Staff, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, greeted the Ugandan officials, setting the stage for meaningful dialogue.

The highlight of the day was the signing of a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the defense ministers of the two nations.

The MoU, aimed at fostering collaboration, encompasses crucial areas such as information exchange, military capacity building, peacekeeping, and regional security, as outlined by the Ethiopian National Defense Forces.

In addition to the MoU, the Chiefs of Staff of Ethiopia and Uganda inked a comprehensive document detailing the plan for the effective implementation of the agreement.

Addressing the gathering, Minister of Defense Abraham Belay expressed optimism about the positive impact of the agreement on the relationship between Ethiopia and Uganda.

He emphasized that the pact would not only facilitate information exchange but also contribute to joint efforts in military capacity building, peacekeeping endeavors, and addressing regional security concerns.

Defense Minister Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, on behalf of Uganda, conveyed a resolute commitment to executing the agreement.

He highlighted Uganda’s dedication to fostering a strategic partnership with Ethiopia and underlined the importance of shared initiatives for the benefit of both nations.

Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces, reflected on the historic ties between Ethiopia and Uganda.

He emphasized that beyond military collaboration, the two nations have a history of working together on Pan-Africanism, promoting a sense of unity within the continent.

Field Marshal Birhanu Jula affirmed Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to implementing the military agreements, showcasing the mutual understanding and cooperation between the defense establishments of the two friendly nations.
