Operation Velvet unveils success as FCT police raid black spot, arrest 307 suspects
The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Benneth C. Igweh, led a late-night operation, codenamed Operation Velvet, resulting in the arrest of 307 suspects at the notorious Gidan Dambe black spot in the Dei-Dei-Zuba axis.
CP Igweh, personally overseeing the tactical teams on February 11, 2024, at approximately 11:30 PM, executed the raid, signaling a stern message that “it will not be business as usual again.”
The operation, launched on February 10, 2024, is a comprehensive initiative encompassing all tactical teams within the FCT Command to tackle vehicular criminality and various other crimes in the Territory.
During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered a significant cache of items, including an English pistol with fifteen rounds of 9mm ammunition from an individual claiming to be a DSS personnel named Ibrahim Tukur.
Additionally, the raid yielded motorcycles, wraps of marijuana, illicit substances, and valuables suspected to have been stolen from innocent residents.
As the suspects undergo screening, CP Igweh emphasizes the importance of professionalism among officers and warns against any form of extortion from residents. The Commissioner assures the public that the security of the populace remains the top priority.
