A call has gone to the governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf to shun the repeated call for the dissolution of the new five emirates in the northern Nigerian state.

The Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure community, under the Rano Emirate Council of Kano State, gave the charge amid rising calls for the disbandment of the new traditional ruling structure initiated by the previous administration led by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The call also included the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi as the sole Emir of one Kano Emirate.

Speaking with journalists in the state, the Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure community called on the state governor to sustain the current structure instead of listening to the call for its dissolution.

The spokesperson of the community, Wali Ado Rano, explained that, “In the exercise of our collective freedom of expression, we organised this press conference so as to emphasise our position on the sustainability of our restored emirates.

“We should make it clear that sustaining these emirates is the aspiration of the vast majority of our area. Secondly the sustenance is not by any means meant to despise Kano Emirate or any personality as perceived by narrow minded elements.”

He added that is not new in Nigeria, adding, “The promotion of Village Heads to District Heads or District Heads to Emirs has been a continuous exercise right from the Fulani Jihad to the present day.

“The sustenance of our hitherto existing emirates as well as upgrading of districts to emirates should not be viewed with negative political connotation.”
