The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has disclosed the outcomes of the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates nationwide.

With an official statement released by WAEC Nigeria’s acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, on Tuesday evening, the statistics provide a comprehensive overview of the examination’s performance.

Out of the 80,904 candidates who undertook the examination, only 46,267 were successful in achieving a minimum of five credits. This achievement translates to 57.19% of candidates securing credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, regardless of the inclusion of English Language and/or Mathematics. Notably, 35,830 candidates, constituting 44.29% of the total, attained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including both English Language and Mathematics.

The examination took place in Nigeria between October 27, 2023, and December 20, 2023, with coordination and marking conducted at seven venues in Lagos, Ibadan, Akure, Benin, Enugu, Uyo, and Kaduna. A total of 4,162 examiners participated in the process.

An encouraging development is the increased participation, with 85,600 candidates entering the examination, marking a 10.07% rise from the 2022 entry figure of 77,768. The examination was held at 568 centers across the country.

Highlighting inclusivity, 211 candidates with varying degrees of special needs registered for the examination, including 33 visually challenged individuals, 21 with impaired hearing, and 30 albinos. WAEC assured that all candidates with special needs were adequately accommodated during the examination.

Candidates are urged to check their results on www.waecdirect.org before visiting the Digital Certificate platform (www.waec.org) to access the digital copies of their certificates, which have been released alongside their results. The entire process aims to streamline result verification and certificate retrieval for the candidates.
