William Troost-Ekong sets ambitious goals for Super Eagles ahead of AFCON final with Cote d’Ivoire

The captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, William Troost-Ekong has expressed the readiness of the team to go all out against Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire in the final match of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, stressing that appearing in the final is not enough.

Nigeria and hosts nation Ivory Coast will play the final later on Sunday at the 60, 000 capacity Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpé in the outskirts of Abidjan.

The Super Eagles are on course for a fourth title after sending the Bafana Bafana Bafana of South Africa out of the competition.

Jose Peseiro’s sides recorded five wins and one draw in six outings at the AFCON 2023 finals.

Speaking ahead of the Sunday final encounter, Troost-Ekong said bringing home the trophy will be special for the Super Eagles.

“We fought hard to get to the final,” Troost-Ekong told reporters.

“We’re not satisfied to reach the final, we now want to go all the way and win the tournament.

“It will be a tough game, it will be special.

“Everyone is very excited, we don’t need.

“Everyone is very excited, we don’t need any motivation to play this final of the AFCON.”

The 2023 AFCON tournament has been regarded as one of the best in recent years, with six beautiful stadiums across five cities hosting the continental football engagements.

The president of the African football governing body CAF, Patrice Motsepe, recently declared that about 2 billion people across the world watched the football showpiece in Côte d’Ivoire.
