Ooni seeks improved synergy among forces to stem insecurity
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called for more collaboration among security operatives to tackle the spate of insecurity in the country.
Mr Ogunwusi made the call when he received Akintayo Adaralewa, the newly deployed commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in his palace in Ile-Ife on Friday.
The Ooni said synergy among security operatives was crucial to addressing the country’s insecurity.
“In countries with stronger security records, collaboration among security operatives remains tight,” said Mr Ogunwusi.
He added, “Such collaboration will make security operatives tackle challenges of insecurity as an indivisible entity; no single security agency can do the work alone.”
Mr Ogunwusi, who said Osun State was peaceful, pledged the traditional institution’s support for the security agencies to ensure a safer environment.
In his response, Mr Adaralewa said his visit was to seek guidance, pay homage, and receive royal blessings and support of the Ooni for success in his assignment.
“I am here to ask you for support and blessings as you gave to my predecessor that made him succeed,” he said.
Mr Adaralewa assured Mr Ogunwusi that his administration would pay more attention to issues of farmers and herders clashes, among others.
He said the era of crisis between the herders and farmers would soon be a thing of the past.
The commandant also solicited credible intelligence from members of the public, saying intelligence gathering was imperative for the success of security operatives.
