Women in Rivers State protest, say ‘our husbands don’t touch us at night because of heat’
Women in Rivers State have taken to the office of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) in protest over the epileptic power supply that has affected their households.
The protesting women alleged that their husbands have refused to share good time with them on the bed because of heat and this was further made worse by the unstable power supply that has affected some parts of the state.
Power supply across Nigeria has suffered huge setbacks in recent times as the national power grid recently collapsed for the first time in the year 2024.
While reacting to the protest by the women on X, formerly Twitter, some Nigerians called on the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, prevail on the power sector.
A user @Viva Dido, said “I don’t know why Nigerian government doesn’t pay attention to electricity. Is 24/7 power supply too much to ask for?”
Another user @KneWKeed wrote, “Lack of access to reliable electricity is indicative of multi dimensional poverty.”
Some users however see the protest as a common comic relief that holds little significance.
@Mkay_vic97 said “Nigeria is a comic relief seriously 😂.”
Despite the protest, no official statement has been issued by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED).
