How we saved N2 billion worth of property in 2023, Adamawa Fire Service explains
The director of Adamawa Fire Service, Adamu Abdullahi, explained in an interview in Yola that the service saved property worth over N2 billion in several fire incidences in 2023.
Despite the tremendous achievement, Mr Abdullahi said properties worth about N3 million were lost to 133 fire incidents last year.
The state fire directorate reported losing ten lives in 2023 while conducting boat mishap rescue operations in the three local government areas of Fufure, Yola, and Numan, respectively.
He was quoted by NAN, saying, “For boat mishaps, we also rescued 17 passengers.
“The directorate is doing its best to sensitise the public and is always ready to respond to emergency situations.”
He highlighted the need to secure modern firefighting equipment, chemicals, fire hydrants, adequate power, and a utility van to aid quick response to emergencies.
He charged residents of the state to always switch off electrical appliances when not in use to avoid fire outbreaks.
“Especially now that we are in the harmattan period, we should also be careful because all places are dry; fire can ignite easily and stop indiscriminate bush burning,” he said.
