Angola players receive cash, iPhones boost to defeat Nigeria’s Super Eagles
Ahead of their quarterfinal Africa Cup of Nations match against Nigeria on Friday, Angolan players have been awarded monetary prizes and material gifts as they continue to progress in the continental championship.
The Palancas Negras were on top of their game as they defeated Namibia 3-0 in the Round of 16 to book a tie with the Super Eagles on Friday.
The oil-rich country is currently vying for an unprecedented spot in the African competition’s semifinals.
Daily Post reports that Banco Angolano de Investimento (BAI) has given out five million Kwanzas (about 5.41 million Naira) to each Angola player and coaching staff for making it to the last eight.
Each member of the Angolan delegation also got an iPhone 15, complete with complimentary calls, SMS, and free internet for a year, from the President of the Board of Directors of UNITEL, Aguinaldo Jaime.
That is not all. They have also been promised US$250,000 to clip the wings of the high-flying Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Recall that Ademola Lookman was the hero as Nigeria beat Cameroon 2-0 in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023 Round of 16 clash between the continental heavyweights on Saturday.
The result sends Nigeria into a quarter-final clash with Angola, while Cameroon exit at the last 16 stage.
With their clinical victory in a TotalEnergies CAF AFCON heavyweight bout, Nigeria showed they have the quality and experience to potentially end their long wait for a fourth continental title.
