Egypt has welcomed the recent ruling issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, demanding that Israel undertake immediate measures to safeguard the well-being of Palestinians in Gaza. The ruling comes as part of a case initiated by South Africa against Israel, seeking emergency measures to halt the bloodshed in the region.

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated this on Friday following the court’s judgment, emphasizing the importance of Israel’s compliance with the ICJ directives, which called on Israel to take all necessary measures to prevent genocide.

The key demands outlined by the ICJ include Israel’s commitment to preventing the killing of Palestinians, avoiding physical or psychological harm, and ensuring living conditions that do not lead to their material destruction.

Egypt expressed its anticipation that the ICJ would also call for an immediate ceasefire, citing it as a crucial measure for the protection of Palestinian civilians.

The statement urged Israel to promptly implement all measures stipulated by the ICJ and called on the United Nations Security Council and influential international entities to take responsibility in demanding a comprehensive and permanent cessation of hostilities.

The ICJ’s ruling on Friday ordered Israel to take “all measures within its power” to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza.

It mandated Israel to implement immediate and effective measures that would facilitate the provision of needed basic services and humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip.
