Rivers: Tonye-Cole reacts to Supreme Court judgment

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Patrick Tonye-Cole, has described the ruling of the Supreme Court judgment that dismissed his appeal against the election of Governor Sim Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a temporary setback.

Recall that the Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed his appeal for lacking merit and affirmed the election of the incumbent governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Reacting to the development, Tonye-Cole, in a statement on Thursday, said that although the outcome was disappointing, it was only a momentary setback.

He commended his supporters for giving him the needed backing in the election and beyond.

The statement reads, “My dear friends, I didn’t go on this journey alone but did so with you by my side. Without your constant encouragement and hope, who knows where we would have collapsed? Because of you, we fought a good fight.

“The result today may be disappointing but it is only temporary. We have so much to gain moving forward so weep for today only, tomorrow we stand again, hold up our heads, and forge on. Aluta continua.”
