Breaking news: It’s all over? Egyptian FA announces shocking update on Mo Salah’s injury
Mo Salah’s AFCON dreams appears to have come to an abrupt end after Egyptian Football announced that the Liverpool forward will miss two matches in the ongoing TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire due to a strain in the hamstring muscle.
The striker was forced off during Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Ghana on Thursday after it was clear that he had sustained an injury.
After the game Egypt coach Rui Vitoria said he hoped Salah’s injury was not a big problem, adding: “I think it’s not dangerous, but let’s see if Salah recovers.”
However, the Egyptian Football Federation has confirmed that Salah, the star player will miss the remaining group game and another in the knockout round if they qualify.
The statement said, “the injury of Mo Salah with a strain in the hamstring muscle will cause him to miss two matches in the Africa Cup of Nations against Cape Verde and in the Round of 16 in the case of qualification”.
Earlier, his Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp said he was shocked to discover Salah had suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah has missed just 10 Premier League matches in six and a half seasons with Liverpool.
“In the moment it was a shock. He felt it and we all know how rarely Mo needs to go off so there was definitely something,” Klopp told reporters on Friday.
