AFCON: Victor Osimhen reveals two key strategies to break Ivory Coast in winner-take-all encounter

African Player of the Year winner Victor Osimhen has expressed the readiness of the Super Eagles of Nigeria to deliver two key objectives as they face hosts Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday evening in the winner-take-all clash at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

According to Osimhen, the Super Eagles want to improve their efficiency in front of goal and seize every chance they produce against the Elephants

“We told ourselves after our draw against Equatorial Guinea that the game against Côte d’Ivoire will not be easy because the fans will rally behind their team,” Osimhen told CAF’s official website.

“Côte d’Ivoire has excellent players. Our objective will be to be more efficient in front of goal, not to miss the opportunities we create,” the Napoli attacker concluded.

Osimhen was always Nigeria’s biggest hope coming into the Africa Cup of Nations, but there is even more pressure on his shoulders after the withdrawal due to the injury of fellow goal-scorer Victor Boniface.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria played a 1-1 draw in their opening AFCON campaign in Ivory Coast against Equatorial Guinea.

The match between Nigeria and Ivory Coast will be played at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé and a win will take the Super Eagles to the top of the log.
