The highly anticipated Dangote Petroleum Refinery, with 650,000 barrels per day, has started the production of refined petroleum products after several weeks of waiting.

The largest single-train refinery in the world, located in Nigeria’s commercial hub of Lagos, began production in the early hours of Friday.

This followed the delivery of six million barrels of crude supply to the refinery this week.

In December last year, the refinery received the first one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited, one of the largest trading companies in Nigeria and in the world.

With the commencement of the operation of the Dangote refinery, it is anticipated that Nigeria’s and the West African countries’ problems with fuel supply will be eased with time.

The refinery, according to the company, will meet 100% of the Nigerian requirement for all refined products and also have a surplus of each of these products for export.

It added that the petroleum refinery project will create a market for $21 billion per year of Nigerian crude. It is designed to process Nigerian crude, with the ability to also process other crudes.
