Sudan has recalled its ambassador from Nairobi in protest against Kenyan President William Ruto’s hosting of talks with paramilitary commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo. The acting foreign minister of Sudan, Ali al-Sadiq, made the announcement on Thursday.

Al-Sadiq in a statement, said the ambassador’s recall is a form of protest against the official reception given to the RSF leader.

He expressed the government’s dissatisfaction with the official reception organized by the Kenyan government for the leader of the RSF.

The Acting Foreign Minister, mentioned that the consultations during the ambassador’s recall would cover all possibilities for the outcome of Sudan’s relations with Kenya.

Daglo, whose Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in conflict with the regular army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan since April, has been on a tour of African capitals, marking his first visit abroad since the beginning of the conflict.

He has been to Uganda, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, and currently, he is in South Africa.

Tensions between al-Burhan and the Kenyan government have been escalating for months, with Nairobi attempting to maintain communication with Daglo to mediate the conflict.

Recall that in a January 1 address, the Sudanese army chief, warned African governments hosting visits by the RSF.

The conflict, has seen mediation efforts stall due to deep animosity between the rival generals and the recall of Sudan’s ambassador adds another layer of complexity to the diplomatic landscape amid ongoing regional tensions.
