AFCON ’23: Jose Peseiro gives conditions on what Nigeria can do to emerge victorious

The head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Jose Peseiro, says the chances of his team performing well are hinged on how well they train and play at the forthcoming African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Super Eagles will play against the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau, in Group A.

Speaking on what lies ahead of his team, the Portuguese gaffer said, “We need to perform to the best of our abilities both during training and during games,” Peseiro stated in an NFF TV interview.

The head coach highlighted the importance of support from the fans, calling it motivation to perform optimally for the national team.

“The fans should stick with us because we will do the maximum for Nigeria.”

“We will fight to win the AFCON even though it won’t be easy,” added the former Venezuela and Saudi Arabia coach.

He added that none of the teams in the group, including the host, can be swept aside with ease.

“Our group is not easy because we are up against Cote d’Ivoire, who have a good squad and are playing at home.

“Equatorial Guinea reached the quarterfinals at the last AFCON, better than Nigeria, while Guinea-Bissau beat us at home (in the qualifiers).
