Plateau killings: NANS calls for swift, decisive action to bring perpetrators to justice
The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has denounced the brutal killing of 96 people and the burning of 221 houses on Christmas Eve, December 24, in Plateau.
Mr Pedro Obi, President of NANS, said in a statement issued in Enugu on Wednesday that the horrific killings and damage had left a trail of sadness, devastation, and misery in their wake.
The national student body called for swift and decisive action to bring perpetrators to justice
“The heinous attacks, characterized by the wanton destruction and loss of innocent lives, are an affront to humanity and a stark reminder of the urgent need for stronger security measures to safeguard Nigerians.
“NANS calls on the relevant authorities to take swift and decisive action to bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice.
“It is disheartening that such acts of violence continue to occur, despite the efforts of the government and security agencies to maintain peace and security in the country,” he said.
He stated that NANS remains in solidarity with the afflicted communities, pledging support and prayers during this trying time.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had directed security agencies to immediately move in, scour every stretch of the zone, and apprehend the culprits of the attacks in Plateau.
The President also called for the immediate mobilization of relief resources for surviving victims of the primitive and cruel attacks, as well as medical treatment for the wounded.
