Tinubu arrives in Lagos for yuletide
President Bola Tinubu arrived in Lagos State on Thursday for the yuletide, joining thousands of Nigerians who have been traveling for the holiday season.
The aircraft conveying the president touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Muritala Muhammad Airport in Lagos at 3.55 pm.
Mr Tinubu was received at the airport by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, other top members of his cabinet, and party supporters.
He later boarded a chopper to Dodan Barracks in Ikoyi, where he will be staying for the holiday season.
Recall that the Tinubu-led administration on Wednesday announced a 50 percent cut in the cost of transportation during the festive season. The government said the move was aimed at easing the financial challenges associated with holiday travel across the country.
Nigeria is usually busy in December, recording the highest number of air, road transport, and railway passengers
The cost of transportation has recently surged in the West African country following the removal of fuel subsidy by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.
The country is also wrestling with its worst inflation in several years.
Prices of food, fuel, transportation and telecommunication increased to new record levels as Nigeria’s inflation rate passed 28 percent in November.
This rising inflation has taken a heavy toll on the socio-economic activities of the nation despite the ongoing transformation by the new president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
