The Nigeria Police Force on Thursday dismissed two of its officers, Kareem Fatai and Jimoh Lukman, caught in a viral video begging for money from a foreign biker in Oyo State, southwest Nigeria.

The incident happened on October 23, 2023, along Moniya-Iseyin Road.

Briefing newsmen at the Oyo State Police Command headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, Commissioner of Police Adebola Hamzat said the officers disregarded directives against professional misconduct, extortion, lack of civility, and corruption.

“We have always been warning against extortion. We have been alerting everyone that this administration has zero tolerance for corruption. That is the stand of the Inspector General of Police and my stand as the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State,” he said.

The dismissed policemen were paraded at the Oyo State Police Command in Eleyele, Ibadan, after their unprofessional conduct gained local and international attention, forcing the police authorities to react.

According to the Commissioner of Police, their expulsion from the police force was based on a recommendation from the orderly room investigation.

He stressed emphatically that the police “don’t condone corruption and don’t want the Command to be given a bad name.”
