27 Rivers State House of Assembly members loyal to Nyesom Wike have withdrawn their impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara as part of efforts to restore political peace in the embattled state.

The move by the lawmakers was contained in the notice of withdrawal read on the house floor on Wednesday.

The decision to withdraw the case, according to the lawmakers, was out of regard for President Bola Tinubu who had, on Monday, convened a reconciliation meeting between the warring parties.

The twenty-seven lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) and had attempted to impeach the governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara

Seven commissioners also tendered their resignations as the crisis deepened.

The political unrest in Rivers was triggered by the power struggle between the governor and Nyesom Wike, who is presently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
