Breaking: Taiwo Awoniyi’s Nottingham Forest coach fired
Nottingham Forest have fired manager Steve Cooper in response to the club’s poor run of forms.
Following five defeats out of their past six games, Forest have decided to act and informed Cooper of the decision to end his contract with the club on Tuesday.
Reports from England say the club is holding talks with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo to replace him.
Nuno had a spell in the Saudi Pro-League before he was sacked by Al-Ittihad in November.
Reports also linked former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner among the possible replacements.
Currently 17th in the top flight, Forest have managed a win once in 13 Premier League games and had eight points from them.
The club lost one of their best strikers, Taiwo Awoniyi, to an injury recently.
The absence of the Super Eagles’ striker was felt as the club struggled to break the defence lines of their opponents.
Taiwo Awoniyi will also miss playing for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year.
Steve Cooper described his injury as bad news for the club.
Awoniyi sustained the injury in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Lesotho in a Group C qualification game for the 2026 World Cup.
He was a key member of the Nottingham Forest sides that escaped relegation last season as he scored 10 times in the 2022/23Premier League campaign.
