Just in: Fubara downplays infighting, says ‘Rivers State is safe and secure’
Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has downplayed the raging political crisis in the state, saying Rivers is safe and fine.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony for a 20,000-unit housing project in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, the embattled governor dispelled claims that the state is in crisis.
“Rivers State is a haven for investment. What you hear on the radio or see on TV – ‘Rivers State is not safe; there is a crisis’ – is not the truth.
“Rivers State is safe and secure for anyone to come and invest. Your investment is safe in our hands.”
His claim is free from what is factually clear in the state. Recall that about seven commissioners have left their positions at the Rivers State executive council as the political crisis in the state hits a new height.
Also, 27 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have decamped to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The development follows the growing rivalry between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike as the duo struggle for the control of the state political structure.
