Sultan of Sokoto, Emir of Ilorin endorse EFCC in historic anti-corruption alliance
In a groundbreaking show of solidarity against economic and financial crimes, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, have pledged unwavering support to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The influential leaders conveyed their commitment during separate events in Sokoto and Ilorin on Friday, December 1, 2023, as they welcomed top EFCC officials to their domains.
Emir Gambari, hosting EFCC Executive Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede in Ilorin, emphasized his dedication to supporting the EFCC and law enforcement agencies in eradicating corruption and criminal activities in Kwara State.
He underscored the role of traditional rulers in instilling values of integrity, discipline, and honesty among their subjects, affirming, “We will give necessary support to the efforts of the EFCC and other law enforcement agencies in checkmating corruption and other forms of criminality in our respective domains.”
In a parallel commitment in Sokoto, Sultan Abubakar assured the EFCC of the Sultanate’s enduring support, citing historical literature dating back over 200 years that addresses the challenges of corruption, economic, and financial crimes.
EFCC Chairman Olukoyede, in his address, urged traditional rulers nationwide to deepen their collaboration with the Commission.
He outlined three key policies guiding the EFCC’s anti-graft efforts: a renewed focus on driving economic development, creating wealth and employment, and a commitment to operating within the bounds of the rule of law.
Olukoyede commended Emir Gambari for his steadfast commitment to the EFCC’s cause and announced plans for the commissioning of the new office complex of the Ilorin Zonal Command.
This unprecedented alliance between esteemed traditional leaders and the EFCC signals a united front against corruption, with a shared vision of fostering economic development, accountability, and transparency in Nigeria.
