The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA says it has destroyed three acres of cannabis farm in Sayinna town, Sokoto State, northern Nigeria.

The Commandant, NDLEA Sokoto Command, Mr. Adamu Iro, said this while briefing journalists at the state command headquarters on Saturday.

The Commandant said his officers uprooted the illegal crop planted on a maize farm and arrested the suspect following a well coordinated intelligence gathering.

The state has a record of marijuana farming but it is not identified as one of the industrial growers in the country.

Mr. Adamu said the command is doing all its best to rid the state of drugs abuse while urging those who are yet to engage in the cultivation of the drug-related crop to desist and engage in legal and meaningful ventures.

“I call on my colleagues and those yet to engage in the cultivation of the drug-related crop to desist and engage in legal and meaningful ventures that will make them self reliant and successful.”

Nigeria’s National Drugs Law Enforcement agency has recently renewed its fight against illicit drugs trafficking and production.

In late September last year, the NDLEA destroyed a batch of 1.8 tonnes of cocaine, its biggest ever seizure, that was discovered in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

The drug bust was estimated to be worth more than $270m, an equivalent of about 194.7 billion Nigerian currency in street value.

The NDLEA pledged to continue to make Nigeria difficult for international drug cartels to ply their trade while urging residents to assist the agency to clean up the communities and cities by joining the campaigns gainst drug abuse.
