United Nigeria Airlines apolgises after landing in wrong city
United Nigeria Airlines has begged for forgiveness after its passenger aircraft landed in Asaba, Delta State, instead of Abuja, its initial destination.
In a statement, the airline explained that the Sunday flight from Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos, to Abuja had temporarily been diverted to Asaba in Delta State due to bad weather.
The airline added that the pandemonium came after the wrong announcement was made to passengers when the plane landed in Asaba.
It vowed to take the needed steps to prevent future occurrences.
“We sincerely apologise for the misunderstanding on our [flight]. We are currently taking steps to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” it said in a statement.
The airline said the flight had landed in Abuja shortly after the confusion.
Meanwhile, Nigerians on X have taken a swipe at the airline, with some of them expressing rage over the occurrence.
This is not the first time a passenger aircraft will land in the wrong destination by mistake.
The BBC reported in 2019 that a British Airways flight destined for Düsseldorf in Germany landed in Edinburgh by error after the flight paperwork was submitted incorrectly.
The passengers only realised the mistake when the plane landed and the “welcome to Edinburgh” announcement was made.
