IGP Egbetokun strengthens police-community bonds in Kwara, advocates professional, people-friendly policing

In a landmark visit to Kwara State on November 24, 2023, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, Ph.D., embarked on a series of strategic engagements to fortify the ties between the police force and the local community.

The visit underscored a commitment to professionalism and highlighted the pivotal role of the community in fostering a safer environment.

The day commenced with a courtesy call to the revered Emir of Kwara at his palace, where the IGP and the Emir engaged in discussions on collaborative efforts to bolster the safety and security of Kwara State residents.

Acknowledging the Emir’s continuous support, the IGP emphasised the indispensable role traditional leaders play in maintaining peace and order.

Following the courtesy call, IGP Egbetokun proceeded to the Kwara State Police Command Headquarters, where he addressed officers and personnel of the force.

His address emphasized the significance of professionalism, adherence to ethical standards, and the imperative of a people-friendly, law-abiding approach to policing. Commending the officers for their dedication, he stressed the paramount importance of earning the trust and confidence of the communities they serve.

During a comprehensive lecture, the IGP highlighted the importance of community policing, urging officers to actively engage with the public to foster a collaborative effort in the fight against crime.

He emphatically underscored the need for strict adherence to human rights and the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.

Continuing his itinerary, the IGP met with the Executive Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq. Discussions centered on collaborative initiatives to ensure the safety and security of the state’s residents.

The IGP commended the governor for his unwavering support of the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining law and order.

Expressing appreciation for the warm reception and cooperation received during his visit, the Inspector General of Police pledged that the Nigeria Police Force would work in synergy with local communities and government authorities to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

The visit of IGP Egbetokun marks a pivotal moment in enhancing the relationship between law enforcement and the community in Kwara State, setting a precedent for professional and people-oriented policing nationwide.
