Ogun 1 Area Command breaks records, rakes in over N30m in October revenue surge

Deputy Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu, the Acting Customs Area Controller of Ogun 1 Area Command, took center stage in a pivotal press briefing on November 22, 2023, to unveil the remarkable achievements of the command throughout the month of October.
The Ogun 1 Area Command showcased an impressive fiscal feat, reporting a substantial revenue generation of N30,408,276.00 during October 2023.
This marked a staggering 400% increase from the N5,487,076.00 recorded in the same period last year, a testament to the command’s commitment to excellence and efficient resource management.
Deputy Comptroller Shuaibu attributed this financial success to strategic leadership and the deployment of essential resources, including 8 Toyota Land Cruiser trucks generously provided by Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR.
Highlighting the command’s dedication to curbing smuggling, Shuaibu emphasized the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of seizures, which amounted to an impressive N398,470,687.00.
He credited this achievement to the collective efforts of gallant officers, intelligence deployment, and seamless collaboration with sister agencies and stakeholders.
The seizures included a total of 122 items, ranging from 901 parcels of Cannabis Sativa to foreign-used Pneumatic Tyres, vehicles, and a substantial quantity of foreign parboiled rice. Deputy Comptroller Shuaibu underscored the importance of these actions not only in facilitating trade but also in combating drug abuse among the state’s youth.
In a bid to foster stronger ties with critical stakeholders, the Ogun 1 Area Command initiated a comprehensive familiarization tour of traditional institutions and security agencies. Notable visits included the palaces of Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Olota, Paramount Ruler of Aworiland, and Oniko of Ikolaje Kingdom, Idiroko.
The command also engaged with state police, NDLEA, DSS, Defense Intelligence Agency, Nigerian Army, and Navy, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring national security.
Deputy Comptroller Shuaibu concluded the briefing by reiterating the gravity of their mission, emphasizing that the economic well-being and security of the nation are non-negotiable.
He reassured the public of the command’s unwavering dedication to their statutory responsibilities and issued a stern warning to smugglers, urging compliance to avoid severe consequences.
“We operate an open-door policy to accommodate the support of patriotic Nigerians. Failure to heed warnings awaits smugglers the full wrath of the law,” he declared, leaving no room for doubt about the command’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and prosperity of the nation.
