EFCC engages fraud suspect in antigraft campaign, states reasons

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has uncovered the wisdom behind its engagement of a purported fraud suspect named Adedamola Adewale, popularly called “Ade Herself,” in a campaign to dissuade Nigerian youths from cyber crimes.

The public enlightenment followed several reactions that surfaced on social media on the commission’s decision to feature the social media influencer (Ade Herself) in anti-corruption talks.

It would be recalled that the EFCC made Adedamola Adewale one of its keynote speakers at the NYSC Orientation Lecture on August 31, 2023, in Lagos state on cybercrime education.

However, the commission maintained that the anomalous reactions were due to insufficient information on the intellectual capacity of the subject matter to influence people if properly employed.

“The public’s concern is duly acknowledged. Unfortunately, most of the comments bordered on lack of information on the status of the case involving Miss Adewale.

“It is important to state that the fraud charges brought against the Influencer by the Commission had been determined,” EFCC said.

It added, “Indeed, her presence in the Commission is pursuant to the judgement of the court that ordered the Commission to tap her talent as an actress, skit maker and social media influencer in a programme of reformation to dissuade other youths from getting entangled in cybercrimes.”

The statement concluded that her engagement with the Commission is part of her non-custodial sentence.
