Buhari appoints Emir of Ilorin as new chancellor of Bayero University
Maimartaba Sarkin Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, has been announced as the new Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano State.
This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday May 9, 2023.
According to the statement, the letter of appointment was presented to him by the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof Agboola Gambari, at HRH residence on Tuesday.
Until the appointment, the Emir was the Chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi since 2015.
Ibrahim Sulu Gambari was born on 22nd April, 1940. He attended Native Authority School, Ofa Grammar School and University of London. Upon his graduation from the University of London, he went to Nigeria Law School. Thereafter, he became the permanent secretary and solicitor-general in then Gongola. In 1995, he became the Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division.
Succeeding his uncle, Aliyu Dan Abdul Kadir, he ascended the throne in 1995. Being a first class king, he was appointed as the chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka, Anambra State in 2001. In 2015, he was deployed to Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi until yesterday when he was announced as the new chancellor of Bayero University, Kano State.
As a king who is passionate about his people, he founded Sheu Alimi Foundation for Peace and Development and made Dr Abdul Qodir Sholagberu its head. He equally renovated the central mosque of Ilorin.
