2023 Election: NSCIA commends INEC, appeals to Nigerians to remain law-abiding, peace-ambassadors
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic affairs (NSCIA) has commended Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for demonstrating professionalism in the just concluded elections.
The Council gave the commendation in a statement on Wednesday March 8, 2023.
According to the statement, NSCIA observed the declaration of the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the winner of the Saturday’s election, has generated issuance threats from some quarters.
NSCIA noted that the threats regrettably emanate from those who are supposed to be flagbearers and ambassadors of peace.
The Council, therefore, appealed to Nigerians to remain law-abiding and tie themselves to the apron of peace.
The council, also, called on the security agencies to diligently discharge their duty and maintain peace.
It equally called on the politicians disgruntled by the outcome of the election to register their displeasure through appropriate legal channels instead of taking the law into their hands.
NSCIA enjoined “Nigerians to be law-abiding, patriotic, peaceful and prayerful.”
The council urged INEC to shift its attention to the conduct of the forthcoming March 11 elections and do everything within its reach to avoid the reoccurrence of the challenges faced in the presidential election.
“Let us remember that instituting a legitimate leadership in the country is everybody’s business.
“Therefore, any attempt to truncate the smooth transition of power on 29 May, 2023 to the president-elect without prejudice to the legal process, by any group of people, section or interest should be robustly resisted,” NSCIA said.
