The Aromonlaran Muslim Community has called on the Oyo State Government to urgently restore safety measures along the Odejayi–Aromonlaran axis of Gate–Sawmill, Old Ife Road in Ibadan, following a series of recurring accidents that have claimed four lives within the last two years.

The community described the road as increasingly dangerous for residents, students, and commuters, citing several tragic incidents. Earlier this year, a Loyola College student was reportedly killed in a motor accident along the route. In response, a speed bump was installed in front of the school to curb overspeeding. However, the community noted that the speed bump was removed during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to the coronation of Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland and has not been reinstated since.

The situation worsened on December 1, 2025, when Imam Sobur Owolabi Opeyemi of the Aromonlaran Muslim Community was knocked down by a motorcycle while attempting to cross the road to his residence.

The cleric was briefly unconscious before stabilising, an incident that residents say further underscores the urgent need for government action.

Expressing his concern over the recurring accidents, Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade said: “This road has become a danger zone for our people. We cannot continue to witness preventable deaths. We appeal to the Oyo State Government to restore the speed bump and implement lasting safety measures to protect lives.”

The community is calling on Governor Seyi Makinde and relevant state agencies to immediately reinstall speed bumps, enforce speed limits, and introduce additional traffic-calming interventions along the stretch.

They emphasised that protecting human life must remain a top priority and urged prompt government intervention to prevent further tragedies.
