Troops Arrest Notorious Criminals, Recover Firearms

Troops of the 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven have arrested a notorious cult leader in Plateau state as part of an ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in the region, while recovering series of ammunitions.
The suspect, Fidelis Adamu, was apprehended on March 20, 2025, at Angwan Gainyeh in the Sakon-Gyel area of Jos South Local Government Area (LGA), following an intelligence report.
Prior to the arrest, the cult group also known as Jungle Boys had planned to attack prominent individuals, including political officeholders and community leaders.
In a similar operation on Sunday, March 23 troops conducting Operation Lafiyan Jama’a responded to reports of criminal activities near the Youth Centre at Sabon Layi in Mangu LGA.
During the operation, a 29-year-old suspect, Nashak Wilson, was arrested with an AK-47 rifle loaded with two rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. Further searches in the area led to the recovery of 30 rustled cows.
The recovered cattle have however been returned to their rightful owner, while the arrested suspect, along with the seized weapon and ammunition, remains in custody for further investigation.
A statement by the Media Information Officer, Operation Safe Haven, Samson Nantip Zhakom on Sunday, March 23 partly reads: “Troops of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN have arrested a notorious cult leader in Plateau State. The arrest came following an intelligence report that a cult group identified as Jungle Boys was planning to launch an attack on prominent individuals including political office holders and community leaders over the ban on illegal mining in the state. The criminal suspect, Fidelis Adamu was arrested on 20 March 2025 at Angwan Gainyeh in Sakon-Gyel axis in Jos South local government area (LGA) of Plateau State. The suspect is in custody making useful confessions, while troops are on the trail of other members of cult group.
“Also, on 23 March 2025, troops on the ongoing Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A responded to information about criminal activities around Youth Centre at Sabon Layi Axis in Mangu LGA of Plateau State. Troops made contact with the miscreants, engaged, and overwhelmed the criminals forcing them to flee. The general area was exploited by the combat troops and one of the criminals named Nashak Wilson aged 29 years was arrested armed with one AK-47 rifle loaded with 2 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special). Further exploitation led to the recovery of 30 cows rustled by the criminal syndicate.”
