Relief for Kidney Patients as Tinubu Slashes Dialysis Costs by 80%

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has announced an 80% reduction in the cost of dialysis.

The price per session has been slashed from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000. This move aims to ease the financial burden on kidney patients across Nigeria.

The initiative is led by Coordinating Minister of Health, Ali Pate. It has been approved for implementation in over 10 federal medical institutions nationwide.

Hospitals offering the subsidized treatment include University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan; Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos; Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi; Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lagos; Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri; University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Maiduguri; Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta; Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare; University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin; and University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar.

Medical professionals have welcomed the move. They noted that beyond the subsidy, the government has also provided essential equipment. This will help improve the quality and accessibility of dialysis services.

This initiative marks a major milestone in Nigeria’s healthcare sector. It reinforces the administration’s commitment to affordable and accessible medical care for all.
