As Lewis Hamilton prepares for his highly anticipated Ferrari debut at the Australian Grand Prix, the seven-time Formula 1 champion insists he feels no pressure to justify his move from Mercedes.
After a historic 12-year run, during which Hamilton and Mercedes became the most successful driver-team duo in the sport’s history, the 40-year-old Briton is focused solely on his own expectations rather than external scrutiny.
“I am under no assumptions it will be easy. I don’t feel the pressure,” Hamilton said in Melbourne, emphasizing that his drive comes from within. “The outside pressure is non-existent for me. The pressure is from within and what I want to achieve.”
Hamilton, who won six world titles between 2014 and 2020, has struggled for victories since 2022. Despite that, he remains determined to help Ferrari return to championship glory, acknowledging the team’s hunger for success.
“They are so driven, and maybe they have not had as much success as they would like and deserve,” he remarked.
Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Hamilton predicts a close battle between Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes. He admits he is still adapting to his new car, particularly the transition from Mercedes to Ferrari power. “Ferrari power, after all my career with Mercedes, is a different feel, different vibration,” he noted, adding that building trust within the team is key to his success.
Determined to bounce back from recent struggles, Hamilton aims for a stronger season, acknowledging that the journey with Ferrari will require patience and adaptation.
