Callum Hudson-Odoi’s late winner propelled Nottingham Forest to a crucial Premier League victory over Manchester City, denting the reigning champions’ hopes of securing a Champions League spot for next season.
With just seven minutes remaining, Hudson-Odoi latched onto a superb pass from Morgan Gibbs-White, controlled it in stride, and fired past Ederson at his near post—sending the City Ground into wild celebrations.
Despite having the better opportunities in the first half, Pep Guardiola’s side lacked the creativity and cutting edge to break down a disciplined Forest defense.
City’s best first-half chance came when Nico Gonzalez unleashed a powerful effort that narrowly missed Matz Sels’ post. Forest, showing greater urgency in the second period, nearly went ahead when Nico Dominguez directed an Anthony Elanga cross straight at Ederson.
Hudson-Odoi came close again midway through the second half, forcing Ederson into a brilliant save, tipping his low shot onto the post.
With 20 minutes remaining, Guardiola introduced Kevin De Bruyne and Omar Marmoush in search of a breakthrough, but City still failed to create any meaningful chances.
Instead, it was Hudson-Odoi who delivered the decisive moment, handing City their ninth league defeat of the season—their joint-most in a single campaign under Guardiola.
The victory moves third-placed Nottingham Forest four points clear of City, who remain fourth but now risk being overtaken by Chelsea if the Blues beat struggling Leicester City on Sunday.
