James Akinwande, a UK-based Nigerian, has replaced a pair of shoes and a wristwatch allegedly stolen from Kemi Badenoch’s brother by officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

This gesture, captured in a video, has sparked widespread reactions online in Nigeria.

Badenoch, the leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, recently revealed in an interview that NPF officers had stolen her brother’s belongings during a visit to Nigeria.

While she did not specify when the incident occurred, Badenoch described her frustrations with systemic issues in Nigeria, which she often critiques.

In the video, Akinwande is seen purchasing new shoes and a wristwatch in the UK and delivering them to the Conservative Party headquarters as a symbolic gesture of goodwill.

His act has drawn praise from Nigerians, including Bashir Ahmed, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, who called Akinwande a “true patriot.”

“Hopefully, this gesture helps put any grievances she has against our dear country, Nigeria, to rest,” Ahmed remarked, commending Akinwande’s action.

Badenoch, born Olukemi Adegoke to Nigerian parents, has frequently spoken critically about Nigeria’s leadership, garnering mixed reactions from the public.

While some applaud her honesty, others, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, have rebuked her for what they see as excessive criticism.
