Anambra Police nab notorious teenage suspect, recover AK-47 hidden in apartment

The Anambra State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough, arresting an 18-year-old suspect and recovering an AK-47 rifle during a targeted operation.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugu-Ukwu, raided a criminal hideout on December 6, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m. The suspect, identified as Miracle Mwakalor from Umubele village, Awka South Local Government Area, was apprehended while other gang members managed to flee.

Police disclosed that the gang had gathered at the location to plan an attack in Nibo, Awka South Local Government. Following Mwakalor’s arrest, he reportedly confessed to the crime and led officers to an apartment in Ubuofu, Awka, where the rifle and a magazine were concealed in the ceiling.

Efforts are underway to track down the fleeing accomplices, with authorities promising to provide updates as investigations progress.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, emphasized the commitment of law enforcement to dismantling criminal networks in the state.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with the police in their efforts to maintain peace and security.
