Enraged American man takes own life, ex-wife, children following Trump win in presidential election
In the United States of America, a man in Minnesota, Anthony Nephew, allegedly shot himself, his wife, ex-partner, and two children shortly after the November 5 election of President-elect Donald Trump.
Authorities reported that the 46-year-old had expressed anger over Trump’s victory, according to the New York Post.
Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa stated that Nephew had a “pattern of mental health issues.”
On Thursday, police found five people dead across two residences in Duluth. The victims included Nephew’s ex-partner, Erin Abramson, 47, and their 15-year-old son, Jacob Nephew, who were discovered with gunshot wounds in one home. Nearby, police later found Nephew’s current wife, Kathryn Nephew, 45, and their 7-year-old son, Oliver, dead in their family home.
Before the tragic events, Nephew had been posting left-wing and anti-Trump content on social media.
In a July post, he voiced his fear of “religious zealots” and described how his “mental health and the world can no longer peacefully coexist.” He also criticized Republicans, writing, “Gilead here we come,” a reference to The Handmaid’s Tale.
Police have yet to establish a motive and reassure residents of Duluth, a city of roughly 90,000 people, that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
