Abia State deploys security personnel to schools ahead of September 16 resumption
In a bid to ensure a safe learning environment, the Abia State government has begun deploying security personnel to schools across the state, ahead of the September 16 resumption date.
This decision was announced by Commissioner for Information Okey Kanu, following an Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
According to Kanu, the measure aims to protect lives and property in schools, amidst a rising trend of criminal attacks on educational institutions and vandalism of school infrastructure nationwide.
The move is seen as a proactive step to safeguard students and staff, and prevent potential security breaches in Abia State schools.
Kanu said, “Also, as part of the ongoing reform agenda in the educational system, the promise that the state government has made in the past has come to fulfilment with the posting of security personnel to our schools.
“Posting security personnel in schools is aimed at securing the lives and property of the students, teachers and the property of the schools involved,” he stated.
He explained a phased plan to deploy security personnel in schools, beginning with Umuahia in the first phase, followed by Aba and other parts of the state.
In a further effort to revamp the educational sector, the government also announced the completion of plans to train 2,000 master trainers for teachers across the state. This initiative aims to reform the educational system and enhance the quality of teaching in Abia State schools.
