Nigeria’s Super Eagles suffered another setback in the FIFA World Rankings, slipping one position in the July rankings, extending their dismal run of form.

In the ranking table by the world football governing body, the Nigerian team garnered 1,498.93 points to stay in the 39th position.

Nigeria suffered a massive drop in the June ranking from 30th to 38th after unceremonious performances in the World Cup Qualifying matches.

Although Nigeria’s ranking dropped globally in July, their continental standing remained unchanged, with the team still occupying the fifth spot behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Cote d’Ivoire in the African rankings.

June and July saw a busy international football schedule, with 125 matches played globally, including three continental tournaments and numerous friendly matches. As a result, Argentina solidified their top spot in the rankings after successfully defending their Copa América title, while France remained in second place after advancing to the semi-finals of UEFA EURO 2024.

The new European champions Spain (3rd, up 5) have yet more reason to celebrate after hauling themselves into the top three of the ranking.

England (4th, up 1) are just behind the leading pack, having leapfrogged Brazil (5th, down 1). Belgium (6th, down 3) now finds themselves outside the top five
