Ethiopian FM holds talks with US, Russian counterparts on regional and bilateral matters
The Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie, held significant meetings today with high-ranking officials from the United States and Russia, focusing on regional peace initiatives and strengthening bilateral relations.
In a morning session at his office, Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie engaged in discussions with Ervin Massinga, the United States Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The dialogue centered on regional issues of mutual interest, with a particular emphasis on peace initiatives in Sudan. Both sides expressed a commitment to collaborative efforts in promoting stability and peace in the region.
Later in the day, Foreign Minister Taye also met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Bogdanov.
Their conversation revolved around mechanisms to strengthen bilateral political and economic relations between Ethiopia and Russia.
In a separate development, Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, announced on Twitter that he received H.E. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, Chair of the Panel on Sudan, along with Members of the Panel, including the IGAD Secretariat Envoy for Sudan, Ambassador Lawrence Korbandy.
They provided an update following the first preparatory meeting with some Sudanese stakeholders as part of a larger consultation process.
The effort is geared towards envisaged AU-facilitated intra-Sudanese political talks aimed at ending the deadly conflict in the country and pursuing a path to peace for all Sudanese.
