Europa League: Nigeria star striker returns to actions, fires Bayer Leverkusen ahead of West Ham
Nigerian star striker Victor Boniface has expressed his happiness following his return to action after a three-month injury absence.
The fearless forward recently made his first appearance for the year 2024 after undergoing surgery in January for an adductor problem in Bayer Leverkusen’s DFB Pokal victory over Fortuna Dusseldorf.
Boniface scored in Leverkusen’s 2-0 victory over West Ham United in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday after coming off the bench.
Speaking on his return, the elated goal poacher said, “I feel good, I feel happy to be playing football again,” he said after the game.
“It was not easy after being injured for two, three months.
“I missed a lot of games and I am still trying to come back.
“I am happy to come and help my team.”
His against the English team is the fifth in six appearances in the competition for Die Werkself this season.
The win keeps Leverkusen unbeaten in 42 competitive fixtures this season as they prepare to host Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Sunday. A maximum of three points will see them crowned champions for the first time.
