2 majors, 13 other soldiers killed in Delta State, military launches investigation
The peaceful endeavours of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, stationed in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, were met with violence and bloodshed as they embarked on a mission to mediate the simmering tensions between the Okuama and Okoloba communities.
On Thursday, March 14, 2024, the troops responded to a distress call stemming from the ongoing communal crisis.
However, what was intended to be a mission of peace swiftly devolved into a deadly ambush orchestrated by youths from the Okuama community.
The assailants, believed to be community youths, surrounded the troops, resulting in a tragic loss of life.
Among the fallen heroes were the commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and 12 soldiers from the reinforcement team.
