Ethiopia, South Sudan leaders commemorate Adwa Victory Day in joint celebration

Marking the 128th Adwa Victory Day, Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster, Taban Deng Gai, and Ethiopian Ambassador in South Sudan, Ambassador Nebil Mahdi, delivered powerful speeches, underscoring the historical ties and shared struggles between their nations.

Taban Deng Gai expressed gratitude for Ethiopia’s pivotal role in South Sudan’s journey to independence, acknowledging the sacrifices of Ethiopian heroes.

He highlighted Ethiopia’s unwavering support during the liberation struggle and its instrumental role in negotiating the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), leading to peace in Sudan and eventual independence for South Sudan.

Ambassador Nebil Mahdi echoed the significance of Adwa Victory Day, emphasizing its broader impact as a symbol of hope for African nations under colonial rule.

He stressed that the legacy of Adwa resonates with the principles of justice, sovereignty, and unity in Africa, with Ethiopia committed to inclusive transformation and ongoing dialogue while respecting the sovereignty of neighbouring countries.

Underlining the enduring bond between Ethiopia and South Sudan, Ambassador Mahdi highlighted their robust bilateral relations, extending beyond economic ties to encompass shared histories and a joint commitment to addressing common challenges.
