Foden, Haaland condemn Man Utd to defeat in Manchester derby
Manchester City continued their brilliant unbeaten home record as they overpowered their city rival, Manchester United, in the much-awaited derby on Sunday.
A brace of goals from Phil Foden and a last minute goal from City’s goal machine, Erling Haaland, condemned the visiting Red Devils to defeat.
Manchester United started the game on a promising note, as they scored through Marcus Rashford in the first ten minutes of the encounter.
His goal was not enough to lift the visitors, as City responded with three goals to show their readiness to win the encounter and go for the Premier League again.
The win for Manchester City reduced the gap between the defending champions and Liverpool to one point after the Reds won against Nottingham Forest in a controversial encounter on Saturday.
Speaking after the game, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola told Sky Sports: “We were not struggling, we were losing the game but not struggling. We had really good defensively and offensively. The first half was better than the second.”
On Phil Foden: “Winning games is when you become a world class player. Everyone play good but you have to win games, and he wins games. What can I say?
Reacting to the defeatMan Utd boss Erik ten Hag, said, “The players gave everything. We had two players on the pitch that were not 100 per cent – Jonny Evans and Marcus Rashford. As a team they gave everything. The performance is very good. Of course we are disappointed with the score.
“They fought in togetherness, but also the performance is good. On another day we could have won this game. Small margins. It’s true. Rashford is through and we can go for a second goal, Garnacho is through and we can go for a second goal, but in both moments we got beaten.
“The plan went well. All the credit to City. The way we defended was good. The plan was a free role for Bruno, and to try to get players behind. Bruno is a very smart player.”
