South Africans react as Nigeria beats Bafana Bafana to reach AFCON final

South Africans have started reacting to the defeat of their national in the hands of the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the semi-final clash of the TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria wreaked the title ambition of South Africa after a dramatic penalty shootout with the Super Eagles prevailing 4-2 on penalties following a dramatic 1-1 draw over 120 minutes.

The match decided at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake on Wednesday was one of the keenly contested in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations ongoing in Ivory Coast.

As Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, who was voted Man of the Match, wheeled away in celebration for Nigeria, their South Africans were seen strolling out with their heavy hearts for missing out on the AFCON final.

While reacting to the defeat, Khetha Mtshali on Facebook praised the team for playing out their hearts against Nigeria. He said it is not possible to win all the time as he wished the team well as they now stand a chance to win the bronze medal. He said, “Well done remember we cannot win everything, we will play 3 and 4 Place we still around. Well done Bafana Bafana for your effort.”

Another user, Mzukulu Ka Nhlapo said, “Negativity aside, boys played well. Nothing’s crushed here, they’ve regained their dignity.”

On his part, Podipodi Skhwama posited that, “Nigerian technical team and coach were shivering when SA boys put pressure on their opponents,the boys played well it was not their Time but as per the record it’s for the first time for SA lock horns with Nigeria till penalty time,. The boys went all out with their hearts to make us proud but it was not their Time ”

A fan who couldn’t watch the encounter blamed the government due to load-shedding. Madigoe M’thantosa Thakgatso said, “Well-done Nigeria… I didn’t see the match because of loadshedding thanks Nigeria for winning the game… atleast no more watching TV for South Africans.”

Goitse Abel commented, “This is a game of football man, the boys really did good with local talent  the whole world is amazed by the Bafana Bafana squad  we have to be proud .”
