Breaking: It’s Nigeria o’clock! Super Eagles fly into AFCON final, beat South Africa on penalties

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have qualified for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria defeated the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out after the two sides played a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Nigeria drew the first blood through captain William Troost-Ekong in the 67th minute via a penalty kick.

The stubborn Bafana Bafana secured a lifeline in the game as they got a penalty, which was converted home by Teboho Mokoena, forcing the game into extra time.

As the game proceeded into penalties, the South Africans failed to replicate their brilliant performance against Cape Verde, as they could not stop the flying Super Eagles.

Nigeria went on to win 4-2 on penalties to make it to the final for the first time since 2013, when they were crowned champions under late coach Stephen Keshi.

Nigeria will play the winner between DR Congo and Ivory Coast in the final of the competition.
