AFCON ‘23: Victor Osimhen charges Super Eagles to deliver for Nigeria in Côte d’Ivoire
Napoli forward Victor Osimhen says Nigeria’s Super Eagles have what it takes to win the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’ivoire.
Speaking at a dinner organised to celebrate his award as Africa’s best player at the team’s training base in Abu Dhabi on Friday night, Osimhen charged his team to give their best in delivering the title.
The Napoli of Italy forward said he believes in the team, stressing that they have a bunch of talented players to execute the job.
“The most important thing for us now is to go to Ivory Coast and win the tournament,” the 25-year-old declared at a dinner organised to celebrate his coronation as Africa’s best player at the team’s training base in Abu Dhabi on Friday night.
“I believe in this group, we have a bunch of talented players to execute the job, fingers crossed, and we are going to do so well.”
Osimhen, who is the highest goal scorer in the qualifying rounds, is featuring in his second continental championship after making his debut in 2019 in Egypt, where Nigeria came in third.
The Super Eagles last won the AFCON 10 years ago and are among the favourites including Senegal, the defending champions, Egypt, host nation, Côte d’Ivoire, among others.
The 2023 AFCON, which will be decided in Côte d’Ivoire, will run from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are drawn in Group A with hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.
