Top Arsenal star misses out on Ghana’s AFCON 2023 final list
The Black Stars of Ghana have left out Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as he failed to recover on time for the competition.
The head coach of the Black Stars, Chris Houghton, confirmed that Partey will remain in London to complete his rehabilitation stages.
“Arsenal will treat this injury with caution, and so will the player [Partey].
“This is a big injury for him, the biggest injury he’s had.
“From all the information we’ve been given, the timelines of his recovery and the caution that will be taken, [his recovery] will not meet our timelines for the AFCON,” he said.
Meanwhile, three Ghana Premier League players have been named in Hughton’s 27-man squad with Asante Kotoko’s Richmond Lamptey making the list.
Others are Medeama duo Hamid Abdul Fatawu and Jonathan Sowah who gained their maiden Black Stars call-ups under the Irish trainer.
