A US woman with a double uterus has given birth twice in two days – after a “one in a million” pregnancy.

Kelsey Hatcher delivered her first baby Roxi Layla on Tuesday night while the second, Rebel Laken was born the following morning.

Roxi was born vaginally on December 19, around 19:45 local time. More than ten hours later, Rebel arrived via C-section.

Ms Hatcher reportedly laboured for 20 hours at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital (UAB).

Ms Hatcher has previously had three excellent pregnancies. This time, she thought she was just pregnant in one uterus until a routine scan revealed she was also pregnant in the other.

She documented her pregnancy journey on Instagram with many followers keenly observing the rare occurrence.

“Our miracle babies were born!” Kelsey (@doubleuhatchlings) shared in an Instagram post.

After a 39-week pregnancy, the twins “decided they were rare enough statistically that they should just go ahead and have their own birthdays too,” she wrote.

Roxi was born on Dec. 19 at 7:49 p.m., and “was joined by” her sister Rebel the following day at 6:09 a.m.

A double uterus is a rare condition that is “present at birth” in some women.

According to Moyo Clinics, it occurs when the two small tubes that typically grow and join together to form the uterus as the fetus grows, instead “don’t join completely” and “each one develops into a separate organ.”
